Ladytron - Versus

Ladytron is a very popular English electro band that received pretty solid if not good reviews for their recently released album Velocifero . I will be reviewing their album later this month or by next month but it… (in post Ladytron Contest: 3 Prizes with CD and Tote Bag! from Allan's World Music. We all dream about being rock stars right? Well the first step to achieving that dream is picking an instrument (unless you have a wicked voice). Playing the guitar can get frustrating at times but it doesn't have to. One thing you have to keep in mind while playing is that music should be fun and expressive. If you're not having fun you should set the guitar down (gently, no matter how bad you want to throw it) and doing something else for a good hour and come back to it.

So you've decided to play the guitar but don't know what to play? Start with chords! While learn chords can be dull it's important for all aspects of playing (yes even those shredding lead lines know their chords!) especially finger independence. If you don't have finger independence you're never going to get anywhere! You need to move each finger freely without affecting the other fingers and chords get you there. Simple chord shapes can be found all over the web.

Okay so you've got your chords down now you get to do the fun part... picking tunes to play. You may not be able to play your favorite songs right away (in fact you probably won't) but there's definitely some easy, groovy tunes out there. For example my first song was "Enter Sandman" by Metallica, second was "Black Dog" by Led Zep, etc. The common "first song" is usually "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple since the opening riff is easy yet fun and everyone knows what it is!

Something I really want to mention in here is these "finger pressure" exercises you'll see online. Please don't give into them. The more you play the less pressure you use because you learn how to instrument works and reacts to your fingers. There's absolutely no point doing "finger pressure" exercises unless your goal is to waste your time!

When playing guitar it's important to have an organized practice session if you want to see fast results. These are tough to figure out when starting out so I recommend joining a course or program. I have personally used and recommend Jamorama, also check out "Guitar Lessons and Gear Reviews" for more information.
